When to use a chess move calculator
Use a chess move calculator when you have a specific position and want to know the strongest continuation. That might be a position from your own game, a study position, a puzzle you failed, or a FEN someone shared. The intent is different from full game review: you are trying to solve one board state clearly.
The strongest workflow is to make your own choice first. Move pieces on the board, test a forcing line, undo it, and return to the original position. Then ask Stockfish for the best chess move and compare its answer with yours.
- Use it for one position, not for live rated games.
- Try your own candidate move before asking Stockfish.
- Read the principal variation instead of copying only the first move.
