Use a next chess move calculator when you have a specific position and want to know the strongest continuation. That might be a position from your own game, a study position, a puzzle you failed, or a FEN someone shared. The intent is different from full game review: you are trying to solve one board state clearly.

The strongest workflow is to make your own choice first. Move pieces on the board, test a forcing line, undo it, and return to the original position. Stockfish updates the best chess move automatically, so you can compare its answer with your own idea without hunting for a separate analysis button.

FEN is the fastest way to load an exact chess position. It stores the pieces, side to move, castling rights, en passant square, and move counters. If the FEN is legal, the calculator can analyze that exact board without replaying the whole game.
